It's true -- most people walk right by fabulous opportunities every day.

Ever heard the phrase -- We all make our own "bad luck"? Well it's true. And our good luck, too.

Or maybe you've noticed that some people seem able to find good things everywhere they go. They just see more. Don't believe me? Think back to the lowly paper clip... just a piece of wire. And the man who invented it became wealthy.

The man who put grooves in the paper clip, however, earned an even bigger fortune. Now, that's an idea anybody could have come up with - simplicity itself.

But most people are so convinced they're unsuccessful and unlucky, that they don't even see the fortunes lying at their feet.

The riches hide in plain sight

If you want to start solving people's difficulties, you may have to learn a new way of looking at things.

Fortunately, that's easy to do. (But I'll get back to that in a moment.)

The average person never learns to look at problems as anything other than difficulties to be avoided. They fail to see the opportunities lying so richly around them.

Here's an example. Back in the early fifties, my Mom used a premium broom made by a large, well known company. It had a metal handle, and the broom fibers were held in place by a steel cap ferrule. Every time she swept the floor, she commented that the company really should put a rubber or plastic protector over that cap to keep it from scuffing furniture. Small idea, but it would have improved product quality.

But there was one hitch. She never did anything about it.

Five years later, the company introduced that improvement. And there went an opportunity she missed forever.
