David or
Goliath?
by Dave Cole
Being
a success in business or in any aspect
of life is not necessarily about doing a bunch
of things to get there.
What
you attract in life is a mirror of who you really
are.
One
of my motivational "pep talks" I give
to my young ball players is about the story of
David and Goliath.
Goliath
was the giant, bigger and stronger than anyone
else, and of course he knew it. His physical size
gave him an absolute advantage over every one
of his opponents and each opponent he faced could
only look up and see the tremendous physical size
of Goliath.
There
were tens of thousands of warriors in the Israelite
army, yet every single one who went out to the
challenge given by the giant Goliath, never came
back alive.
Every
man who went out to face the giant, looked at
how big this guy was. They saw a giant before
them, they saw the adversity facing them and attracted
back to them defeat.
But
one guy, David, who happened to be the youngest
and smallest of the Israelite army did things
a bit differently.
He
was aware of the size of the giant, however.....he
focused his attention on who he was and the power
he had within him, instead of on his opponent
and the adversity he faced.
When
we play baseball, too often kids look at the other
players and think about how big or how good they
are instead of focusing on their own abilities
and the training they've received and who they
are.
Success
is not necessarily something to do, it's more
something to be.
When
you focus your energies on who you are and on
the power and abilities and backing you have,
then you are able to attract to you the unknown
powers that will assist and help you attain success
and bring to you success in whatever field or
endeavor you are in.
David
focused his energies on who he was and his abilities
rather than on how big the opposition was and
the problems that were present.
We
all have problems and things to over come, but
we all have the power within us to overcome these
things.
What
we focus on very often determines the outcome.
Focus
on the problem and we attract more problem to
us.
Focus
on the ability you have and the power you have
and we attract more ability and power to us.
Does
that make sense to you?
You
don't necessarily need to do a lot of things to
be successful or to overcome your adversity and
problems.
You
do need to focus your energies on the positive
qualities you do have and the power that is available
to you.
Goliath
was a success as a warrior for the most part of
his life because he focused on his wins and on
his abilities. He lost because he took his focus
off who he was and gave away his power to David
who was so much smaller and physically weaker.
David
won that battle because he didn't focus on Goliath's
strengths and the giants obvious advantages. David
won over Goliath because David focused on his
own unique strengths and abilities.
You
have your own strengths and abilities, you each
have individual problems and adversities in your
life.
What
you focus on the most is what you will attract
the most of.
I
tell my kids it doesn't matter if Randy Johnson
is on the mound pitching against you, what matters
the most is who you are inside yourself. If my
kids look at that big pitcher and start to focus
on who the opposition is, instead of who they
are and the ability they have, then that pitcher
has won the battle already, even before my kids
get in the batters box to face him.
To
be a success in sports, in business, in life,
You must recognize you.
You
must affirm your value and your ability constantly.
This
is what separates the winners from the losers...
